Pair arrested after 'robbing' Victorian RSL

A man and woman are in custody, accused of storming an RSL in Victoria’s south-west.

Police said the man, 31, and woman, 33, entered the Ararat RSL on High Street, Ararat, about 10.40pm yesterday.

“They’ve gone into the bar area, where one of the males has produced a weapon and demanded money (from) staff,” Detective Senior Constable Mal Weinberg from Ararat CIU told 9News.

The staffer handed over unknown amount of cash to the man, who then  regrouped with the other offender and fled the scene.

Detectives arrested the alleged robbers at a West Melton property about 7am today.

Charges are yet to be laid.

Det Snr Const Weinberg said staff at the RSL have been “shaken up” by the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.
