Archives push govt to go fully digital

Government agencies are still adjusting to the digital century with a third remaining inveterate print-outers.

The National Archives has been working with agencies to move to digital-only records by 2015.

After then, the archives will only accept records created in their digital format - they don't want to add more paper to their 384km of shelving if possible.

Director-General David Fricker says nine in 10 government agencies believe they'll meet the 2015 deadline.

"However, there is still work to be done with around one third still printing digital information to paper and duplicating paper and digital records," he says in the agency's annual report.
