Anzac Day 'troublemaker' held in custody

A man accused of brandishing a knife near Anzac Day crowds will remain behind bars after a magistrate denied his bid for freedom.

Marcel Duval Hopkins, 46, was refused bail in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Hopkins was arrested on Friday after he allegedly pulled out the blade in Brisbane's crowded city centre during the April 25 march, which drew more than 15,000 people.

Police say he created a disturbance near the event's marshalling area about half an hour after war veterans began marching along Adelaide Street.

Officers allege that Hopkins pulled out a knife when they approached him, but he dropped the weapon when ordered to.

He's charged with going armed to cause fear, seriously assaulting police, carrying a knife in public, drug possession and public nuisance.

The case has been adjourned until May 28.
