Retrial for teens found guilty of 15-year-old's murder

Two boys found guilty of murder after 15-year-old Angus Beaumont was fatally stabbed will receive a retrial following a successful appeal.

Angus died after a knife was thrust 14cm into his chest in a fight with the two teenagers at Redcliffe, north of Brisbane in March 2020.

The two boys - who can't be named - were 14 at the time.

They were found guilty of murder by a jury in June last year.

Sentenced four months later, one boy received nine years in jail and another seven-and-a-half years.

Both boys were ordered to serve 60 per cent of their respective terms.

However, they face a new trial after winning an appeal against their murder convictions.

The Queensland Court of Appeal on Friday ordered the guilty verdicts be set aside and that both defendants face a retrial.

The court is yet to publish its reasons.

Angus' parents Ben Beaumont and Michelle Liddle have campaigned for Queensland youth justice system reforms following their son's death.
