Amanda Knox on life since prison and new project the Scarlet Letter Reports

She became known as Foxy Knoxy and her face was plastered across the world after she was jailed and then freed for murder in a foreign country.

American woman Amanda Knox became tabloid fodder as prosecutors alleged she and her then boyfriend killed her British housemate in a sex game gone wrong.

Ms Knox spent almost four years in an Italian prison after being convicted of the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2009 before being freed in 2011. The Supreme Court of Italy acquitted and cleared her and the boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito in 2015.

Now the writer and activist is giving a voice to other women who have been sexualised and glorified by the media.

Speaking on Today, the 30-year-old journalist and writer, spoke about her time in prison, her life since she was freed and how her new documentary series aims to give a voice to other women like her who have been vilified.

The Scarlett Letter Reports, produced for Vice's Broadly and broadcast on Facebook, includes interviews with actress Mischa Barton, Amber Rose and Brett Rossi.

Ms Knox also speaks with Daisy Coleman, who was sexually assaulted by popular football players at her school aged just 14 in 2012.

Ms Knox said the trauma of her own experience meant it was easy to open up and hear about other people’s. She also said she felt honoured by the women she spoke with, some of whom were celebrities.

"I wasn't sure what they were going to think of me," she said about the women she interviewed.

"The fact that they even agreed to speak to me, to tell their most intimate stories with me was incredibly touching and moving. Because they were agreeing to talk to Foxy Knoxy. They were agreeing to engage with me, despite what the media had done to me.

"And the fact they were willing to do that, and then share she is most deeply intimate traumas in their life, where they are putting themselves on a real human level and saying, 'Look, I'm just a person like you. I saw what happened to you. I can relate to that.'

"Like I was very moved that they made that gesture towards me as well."
