Almost one dog attack on posties everyday

Somewhere in Australia a postie is facing the threat of a dog attack, and the posties' union is biting back.

The Communications Union wants Australians to help keep their pooches secure, warning there's almost one dog attack a day across the country.

There's been a decline since Australia Post ran a national dog safety campaign in 2015, but last year there were still 241 dog attacks on workers.

The union argues the rise of online ordering means posties are delivering more to doorsteps, increasing the risk of dogs escaping through the front door or jumping fences.

"While Australia Post provides training for workers to educate them on canine behaviour, we need the community's help too," national secretary Greg Rayner said in a statement on Wednesday.
