Almost 200,000 fines issued to NSW train hooligans

A New South Wales police operation is cracking down on hooligans acting up on the state’s trains.

Officers in Operation Colossus issued more than 162,000 fines last year, ranging from $100 for passengers who put their feet on the seats, to $400 for drinking alcohol on board.

Footage obtained by 9NEWS shows one man riding train seats like a mechanical bull, while another video shows another man attempting to smash through a vending machine.

“If you’re going to get on the system and play up, you’ll be locked up, it’s as simple as that,” a police spokesman told 9NEWS.

At any one time, there are at least 200 police officers patrolling Sydney’s trains.

Last year, NSW Police Transport Commissioner Max Mitchell said the operation aimed to apprehend offenders before their actions impacted the public.
