An 18-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged after he allegedly crashed a car into a swimming pool while drink driving.

The car ploughed through a fence on Jacobs Wells Road in Pimpama and into the pool around 8.30pm yesterday.

Police allege the Ormeau man fled the scene on foot before being arrested nearby a short time later.

The man was given a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a reading of .096.

He has since been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, drink driving and failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash.

No one was injured in the incident. The damage and structural integrity of the home will be assessed.

The man is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on February 15.
