Alleged assaulter hit by car in Sydney

A man has been hit by a car while running from police following allegations he assaulted a woman in Sydney.

Investigators were questioning the 50-year-old man over claims he hit a 33-year-old woman in the face and head before he ran.

Police were chasing the man on foot when he was hit by a car in Merrylands, western Sydney.

The man is at Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver has undergone drug and urine testing.
