Alex McKinnon and NRL gear up for RiseforAlex round

Newcastle Knights utility Alex McKinnon has spoken exclusively with the NRL Footy Show’s Erin Molan ahead of this weekend’s RiseforAlex round.

The Hunter Stadium precinct will welcome Alex home on Sunday for the first time since he broke his neck on the football field four months ago.

The NRL has vowed to donate one dollar for every fan who attends a game during the round to Alex McKinnon’s charity.

The RiseForAlex Fund will ensure Alex McKinnon has ongoing financial and medical support.

Speaker to the TODAY show, Knights winger James McManus said the weekend event was a great occasion.

“It’s an opportunity, I guess, for us as players to celebrate Alex and give back to him and his situation,” he said.

“We’re a really close bunch of guys and we’ve certainly been feeling it over the last couple of months.

“I think it’s important everyone gets down to an NRL game this weekend and shows their support,” he said.
