Elderly couple brutally bashed while buying groceries at Aldi
An elderly couple who fled a warzone in Iraq have been brutally attacked while doing their weekly grocery shop in south-west Sydney.
Hamida and Haidar Al Zohairy were at their local Aldi in Liverpool on Saturday morning when they were allegedly attacked by a man waiting in line with them.
Haidar, 87, stepped in to try and protect his 74-year-old wife during what they said was an unprovoked attack.

The couple were both hospitalised and at first it was thought Hamida's hips were broken.
Their niece Saleema Al Zohairy told 9News her aunt is now struggling to walk.
Chiv Heng, 46, was arrested two days later and the court heard he has neurological and psychological issues.
Mr Heng will remain in custody until at least Monday, when his lawyers have indicated he is likely to apply for bail.
Ms Al Zohairy said the elderly couple are now afraid to leave their home.
"We have come from (a) country (that's) dangerous, (we have) come here for safety," she said.
"Why this person make this (happen)?"
