Aircraft raid in the Illawarra

The Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad have raided an aircraft in the Illawarra.

The squad began searching the plane at Albion Park, south of Wollongong, on Tuesday and resumed their raid on Wednesday after local police guarded it overnight.

The plane mysteriously turned up at the airport nearly two weeks ago and only briefly left the airport on Friday before returning, the ABC reported.

Police say the operation is part of an active investigation and have refused to provide further comment.
