Ageing NSW 'hurt' by govt inaction: oppn

Tax hikes and cuts to services loom for NSW residents if the state government doesn't urgently extract more money from the Commonwealth to deal with its ageing population, the opposition says.
The Future State: NSW 2056 report, released on Thursday, predicts around a quarter of the population in 2056 will be over 65, with the state's overall population to surge 50 per cent to more than 11 million.
"This report highlights fundamental problems we have with the relationship with the Commonwealth, and the fact revenues generated from the Commonwealth are going to fall in NSW and that's going to hurt us," shadow treasurer Ryan Park told reporters on Thursday.
