AFL player Michael Hibberd pays tribute to missing brother who vanished on fishing trip

AFL star Michael Hibberd has taken to social media to pay tribute to his brother Geoff, who has been missing since Sunday morning.

Jason De Silva, 20, and Geoff Hibberd, 33, set off on a fishing trip from Flinders boat ramp around 6am on Sunday but failed to return.

The family hold grave fears for the pair after their boat washed up at Pyramid Rock, Phillip Island on Monday morning. 

Police have since scaled down the search.

Geoff's brother, Michael posted a touching tribute on Instagram.

"My Brother, My big brother. To say I'm heartbroken and devastated is the world's biggest understatement!

"I will never forget how you have always been there and would do anything for not just me but honestly anyone," he posted.

"You're one of the most unique, kind and caring people I've ever met and I'm so lucky I had the gift of you as a big brother through my whole life. You were my first point of call growing up when I needed someone, you would drop anything you were doing at anytime, just to help me.

"I idolised you! You were my hero. You still are!! I know you have always been my number 1 fan and the bond we had as brothers was like nothing else. It was special and words can't describe it. I will never forget the best in you and the person you were!"

Hibberd went on to describe his brother as an "amazing father", promising to look after his niece in his brother's absence.

"Please know brother I will always be there and take care of Indie. My pledge to you," he said.

Hibberd went on to say "RIP mate. I already miss you so much".

He also urged others to hold onto their loved ones saying: "Tell them you love them. Family is everything".

Police will continue a scaled-down search for the pair over the coming days, with the Police Airwing patrolling Phillip Island over the Easter long weekend.
