Teen stabbed after fight about 'where to cook barbecue'

A teenager has been stabbed after a dispute at a birthday party that was sparked over where to cook a barbecue.

The 18-year-old man was left with a steak knife wound in the thigh after an argument broke out in Playford Alivetown Park in Adelaide.

"There was a conversation over the phone to relocate the BBQ," witness Melissa Casey told 9NEWS.

It's believed woman at the party wanted to stay put but a man on the phone wanted to move.

"Then he rocked up, screaming to pack up and move on and then a young guy stood up to defuse the situation and ended up in a brawl," Ms Casey said.

Witnesses said the victim was trying to break up the fight when he was attacked.

"He got stabbed right in the top of his left thigh, it went all the way in, the blade, he just stabbed him really fast," Ms Casey said.

"He was bleeding a lot out the back of his leg.

"He was shocked, he was okay."

The victim was rushed to the Lyell McEwen hospital.  He required surgery on the wound to his left thigh but is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect is now being hunted by police.

Meanwhile, the other attendees at the barbecue stayed there for hours after the incident.

They were said to be shaken and confused but determined for the party to continue.
