'I should have been dead': Motorcyclist's anger after he was allegedly left on road to die

An Adelaide father who was left for dead on the road by an alleged drink driver has shared his harrowing story of survival from his hospital bed.

Motorbike rider Andy Brown was hit from behind. Those who saw the impact have said they're stunned he survived.

The 59-year-old, who works as a postman and has a 10-year-old daughter, is bed bound in hospital.

The driver was a 30-year-old woman allegedly nearly three times the alcohol legal limit when Brown was knocked off his motorbike, at the intersection of Maynard Road and Anzac Highway at Plympton in Adelaide's south-west last week.

She then allegedly left him on the road, fighting for life.

"I just got a massive hit from behind. I was totally confused and I know nothing about it. I've been told I was hit at 60km/h," he said.

"It was a pretty serious accident and I should have been dead."

Residents rushed to help after hearing the bang, and other motorcyclists stopped.

Brown was rushed to hospital with a fractured neck, severe swelling of his spine, and internal injuries.

"The cops have seen video footage and they said they can't believe I survived it," he said.

Brown has been told he might never ride a motorbike again, which he says makes him angry.

But says the support he's received after the crash has left him humbled.

His friends are fundraising to help his recovery.

"I'm just grateful for everyone here, they've all been fantastic," he said.

SA Police later found the car and driver at a Sheidow Park home in the city's south.

She was breath tested and she returned a positive result of 0.141, police said.

She was reported for drink driving, driving without due care, failing to report a crash, failing to render assistance and failing to exchange details.

Her vehicle was impounded for 28 days and she received a six month immediate loss of licence.

The woman is set appear in court at a later date.
