Victim of Adelaide tree tragedy identified as young international student

A young international student has been identified as the woman who was killed after a tree branch fell in parklands in North Adelaide.

Alifia Soeryo died at the scene after a large tree branch snapped from a gum tree and landed on her at the University of Adelaide's soccer ground on War Memorial Drive about 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old, also known as 'Fia' or 'Fi' has been remembered by friends and family as a "beautiful soul" who was "taken away way too soon".

"She always had a smile on her face, she was one of the most beautiful person that I've ever met," a heartbroken friend told 9News.

"She was taken away way too soon, she had so much love and life to give."

The 22-year-old attended the University of Adelaide and was an avid runner and bike rider.

A local told 9News the tree was reported to council just two weeks ago after another large limb snapped.

Adelaide Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax-Smith said no other information could be provided, and the circumstances would be the subject of an official investigation.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
