A young woman who died after she was hit by a falling tree branch in the parklands at North Adelaide has been remembered as a "beautiful person" who was loved by her friends.

The 22-year-old was out for a run at the university sports fields on War Memorial Drive when a large tree branch snapped from a gum tree and landed on her at about 2.30pm yesterday.

Emergency services crews worked to free the woman but she died at the scene.

"She had told me that she was going for a run and she is normally a quick replier to my messages and she wasn't responding," he said.

"She told me she was going here because she likes the gravel for running.

"She stopped responding and for some reason I just had a hunch that something had gone wrong.

"And honestly, I just checked the news and I saw that something had happened.

"There was an accident down here and it said 'young woman, early 20s' and I just started thinking the worst."

Josh said his friend was a "beautiful soul" who was "taken away way too soon" and had "so much love and life to give".

"She was shy at times but she would always talk and she was very approachable," he said.

"She always had a smile on her face and she was one of the most beautiful people that I've ever met.

"She absolutely loved her family with every bit of her soul.

"She loved her friends (and) her cats."
