An investigation is under way following a bus crash on Adelaide's O-Bahn track during this morning's peak hour.

The incident near the Klemzig Bug Interchange resulted in significant delays and the closure of a section of the track.

Security vision captured the moment the bus driver lost control, slamming into the guide rail and creating a plume of smoke.

Emergency services responded to the scene, finding the driver's cabin in a precarious position.

"We've stabilised the vehicle to the extent that we were able to get the driver out via a ladder through the driver's door," Phil Ross from the Metropolitan Fire Service said.

The driver, a man in his 60s, was assessed by paramedics at the scene. There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident.

The crash caused significant delays for commuters as a complex operation involving multiple cranes was required to remove the bus from the track. The third crane brought to the site was ultimately successful in lifting the vehicle.

Adelaide Metro has commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

"This is the first time in 30 years that I've seen this," Ross said.

The O-Bahn track between Klemzig and Paradise will remain closed into next week to allow for repairs, with outbound buses to be detoured via the road network.
