Terminally ill 'Bicycle Bandit' to be sentenced sooner than expected

A terminally ill Adelaide man dubbed the Bicycle Bandit will be sentenced sooner than expected after a judge agreed to fast-track the hearing before he dies.

At an urgent hearing called this afternoon, Kym Parsons asked a judge to sentence him "as soon as possible".

The court heard the 73-year-old, who has terminal cancer, is poorly and suffering behind bars.

Parsons has only been in custody since he confessed to his decade-long crime spree earlier this week.

He confessed that he was the notorious bank robber who terrorised tellers and customers in a number of small towns across South Australia.

Parsons had previously been granted access to the voluntary assisted dying program and planned to use his kit.

The judge was initially asked to sentence him by 2pm today so that he could use the assisted dying kit.

However, the judge denied this request and instead moved the sentencing forward from Friday next week to Monday instead.June 28 to Monday, June 24.
