Calls for road upgrades after pedestrian killed in McLaren Vale
A wedding guest has died and another injured during a night of celebration that ended in tragedy when they were hit by a car walking from the venue in Adelaide's south.
The 78-year-old Willunga driver of the ute was treated by paramedics for shock after hitting the man and woman last night while they were crossing Victor Harbor Road in McLaren Vale.
The pair were walking from a wedding at the nearby Paxton Wines at around 11pm when they were struck.
The 59-year-old Allenby Gardens man was taken by ambulance to the Flinders Medical Centre with leg injuries. 9NEWS
Witnesses told 9NEWS around 20 people stopped to help, including a passing nurse, but the 59-year-old Allenby Gardens woman couldn't be saved.
The man, also aged 59, was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with leg injuries.
The fatal crash has prompted calls from locals to upgrade the intersection of Victor Harbor Road and Seaview Road, who say the intersection is too dark and unsafe.
It is the second fatal crash at the intersection this year – a 50-year-old McCracken woman died there in March when her car collided with a truck.

The section of road was so dark that, following the crash, one passer-by used a torch to direct traffic from the crash site.
"It's an absolutely tragic incident for everybody that's involved," Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga, Erin Thompson, said.
"We sympathise with our community and we'll be working with our community to advocate to state government to ensure these roads are upgraded and made as safe as possible, as soon as possible."
