A man was lucky to escape serious injury after a fiery crash in Adelaide’s north yesterday.

Just after 6.30pm, emergency services were called to Beovich Road in Ingle Farm after reports the driver of a Holden sedan lost control before the car flipped and crashed into a power pole, erupting in flames.

Witnesses saw the driver, a 33-year-old Pooraka man, crawl out the broken window just before the car was destroyed.

“He escaped from the window, he was bleeding everywhere, the blood was everywhere on his face,” witness Hiral Patel told 9News.

When emergency services arrived, power had been cut to hundreds of nearby homes as footage of the carnage showed sparks flying from the damaged pole.

The Holden sedan was completely charred when emergency crews finally extinguished the flames.

Witnesses said the driver tried to run before an off-duty police officer caught and arrested him.

The man was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for a mental health assessment and mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Investigations are ongoing and the driver is likely to be charged.
