Adelaide motorcyclists bring Christmas cheer to kids in need

More than 5,000 motorbike riders have braved the Adelaide heat to spread some much-needed Christmas cheer across the city.

The Motorcycle Riders' Association of South Australia's annual toy run transports gifts to needy children, as families struggle with financial pressures this holiday season.

An endless sea of motorbikes departed Victoria Park, led by the man in red who swapped his sled for a sidecar.

Both veterans and first timers took part in the ride, including Geoff Grant who took part in his 41st toy run.

"It's the smile on children's faces, even just riding down here this morning, the kids in the cars light up when they see Santa and me being able to escort him is a real buzz," Geoff said.

Despite the blistering heat, it was still safety first with many happy to show their softer side for a good cause.

The convoy later arrived at Callington Oval, where they handed over the precious cargo to St Vincent de Paul.

"Riders are from all walks of life, all styles of bikes, we don't care what you ride on today, that's all pushed aside," ride organiser Don Manser said.

"We've got a common vision for going for this incredible and bless the kids of South Australia doing it tough with some great toys."

Seventy per cent of the charity's annual donations come from the event.

Volunteers will now hand-deliver the donations in the leadup to Christmas, hoping to make it a holiday to remember for South Australian families.
