Carjackers target dying homeless man, stealing vital medical equipment in Adelaide

An elderly homeless man who says he's terminally ill, has had his car containing vital medical gear stolen during a violent carjacking in Adelaide.

Jack Walker, 76, was unloading items from his vehicle near a boarding house on Wright Street in the CBD, when he was attacked at 11pm last night.

“I was bringing in the last load of stuff to put in and he got me there, took the keys, the car pulled (away) and roared of,” he said.

“He got two hits in, I got up but I couldn’t do anything.”

Mr Walker said he only bought the car a week ago so that he could use it to get to vital hospital appointments.

“I’ve got one lung and am living on a machine,” he said.

“It’s got my incubator, it’s got my insulin, it’s got my medication. I had one lung out, I’m incontinent and can’t see.

“What am I going to do now? No car, all my clothes (are gone).

“I’ve only got a few months to go.”

The 2005 blue Mitsubishi Verada with registration plate XPU 378 was last seen heading towards West Terrace.

The suspect is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 150cm tall and of a slim build.

He had a black moustache and was wearing dark coloured shirt and black pants.

Anyone who sees the vehicle or the suspect is urged to contact police.
