An intersection in Adelaide's southern suburbs has gained the troubling title of the city's most dangerous for the third year running.

The Marion and Sturt Road intersection sees about 80,000 vehicles passing through each day and 36 injuries or deaths have been reported there in the past five years.

Northern suburbs identified in the RAA report as high-risk areas include Curtis and Peachey Roads in Munno Para and Main North and Regency Roads.

While some of these intersections have undergone or are scheduled for upgrades, the RAA is urging the government to take immediate action to address the ongoing safety concerns at the Marion and Sturt Road junction.

"A camera has been installed," Police Minister Dan Cregan said.

"We have seen a modest decline in the number of crashes but we recognise that it's a dangerous intersection."

In some welcome news, the Britannia Roundabout, which had ranked among the most dangerous intersections for more than a decade, has dropped to 11th place after upgrades implemented in 2013.
