Adelaide man jailed for setting alight teen love rival

An Adelaide man will spend at least two years behind bars for setting alight a teenager who was dating his ex-girlfriend.

In January last year Joshua Lomas and another man stormed Luke Coburn's Munno Para West garage and doused the 17-year old in petrol before setting him alight.

The teen was placed in a medically induced coma – a third of his body burnt.

For the crime Lomas was sentenced to five years in prison and could be out in two, but his victim is happy with the outcome.

"All I can say is that I'm happy, and that's it really, I've just got to get on with my life," Mr Coburn said.

In sentencing, the Judge Simon Stretton described it as an "unprovoked, cowardly, vicious and frightening attack on a defenceless young man in his own home".

"What you did could easily have killed the victim, it was purely good luck that more harm wasn't done," Judge Stretton said.

Judge Stretton decided against suspending the sentence, saying public deterrence was paramount as was justice for Mr Coburn, who'll bear the physical and emotional scars of the attack for the rest of his life.

"I haven't got full movement and I never will probably so I've just got to live with it like that," Mr Coburn said.

But the family's ordeal isn't over yet with another alleged attacker, Tristan Champion, facing court earlier this month but is yet to enter a plea.
