Masked men storm home, bash occupant in Adelaide

Police are hunting three masked men who stormed a house in Adelaide's north and bashed the resident in the head.

The armed intruders forced their way into the Smithfield Plains home about 5.30am and assaulted the 34-year-old occupant.

The trio fled Crittenden Road in a white four-wheel drive.

The victim was rushed to hospital with head injuries.

Nearby residents say the attack has left them frightened.

"It's scary stuff, especially when you're 80, we wouldn't have a hope, would we?" Lilian Treagus told 9NEWS.

"You don't want to go out after dark."

Crime scene police and detectives have spent the morning at the home, searching for clues and door-knocking neighbours.
