The city where lower prices and large land sizes are attracting families in droves

Major new infrastructure projects combined with record low interest rates has brought back confidence in the construction of homes in Adelaide.

Major housing developers Hickinbotham Homes and Land Vision has given 9News an insight into the buyer interest in its latest projects north and south of the city.

"They're bucking the trend," Michael Hickbotham, Director of Hickinbotham Homes said.

Its Liberty development is offering 3500 blocks of land - where lower prices and large land sizes are attracting growing families in droves.

"Larger blocks in all of our estates are the first to sell ... families want more room to grow," he said.

Land Vision's St Yves development at Roseworthy is promising 800 homes, and will feature a brand new school campus for Trinity College.

"(It'll be) a whole new township if you will, a mini city, and the like," Joe Oppedisano of Land Vision said.

Builders say a sluggish few months in the property market is being undone by renewed interest in brand new homes, where buyers can select exactly what they want in their homes.

"There was that credit crunch, but with interest rates at the rate they are now, we'll probably never see (rates like) that again," Ian Markos of Master Builders South Australia said.

Mr Hickinbotham says major road projects, like the Northern Connector, which is rapidly taking shape, and the Southern Expressway making these areas a little further from the city more appealing.

"All of these projects, which plug into strong regional economies, are suddenly that much closer to the rest of the state and the city," he said.
