Woman, former lover accused of love triangle murder plot face court

A woman accused of repeatedly plotting to murder her ex-husband in a love triangle conspiracy has faced court in Adelaide alongside her co-accused former lover.

Lisa Lines, 43, faced court after she was extradited from Palau to face multiple charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder her ex-husband Jonathan Hawtin with the alleged help of two former partners, Zacharia Bruckner and Leticia Fortune.

Lines sought release from custody during today's appearance, arguing she would be pleading not guilty to all charges.

The court heard Lines had allegedly acquired a passport and citizenship for Vanuatu and is accused of continuing to plot the murder of her ex-husband from overseas.

The prosecution argued Lines had continually gone to countries where she was beyond the reach of Australian authorities, including Thailand and Taiwan, before her arrest in Palau.

The prosecution also heard Lines allegedly tried to order a hitman, who was in fact an undercover police officer, to kill Hawtin.

Lines' bid for freedom was refused and will remain in custody until May.

Lines' ex-lover Fortune, 34, also faced court after she was arrested at an Everard Park home yesterday and charged with attempted murder.

Fortune is accused of attempting to smother Hawtin while he lay injured in the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre in 2018.

She was allegedly sent to kill Hawtin by Lines and Bruckner after an axe incident in 2017 that left him a tetraplegic.

In the same 2017 incident, Bruckner suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, which police now allege was self-inflicted to stage a self-defence case.

This was allegedly the first attempt to murder Hawtin.

Hawtin was charged with attempted murder but acquitted at trial.

A home detention report was ordered for Fortune, who will return to court in a week.

Bruckner was extradited from Brisbane last week on attempted murder and conspiracy to murder charges.

He remains before the courts.

Hawtin made his first public comment since the arrests today.

"This has been a cruel and exhausting struggle, my mother and I have been through hell, but we never gave up and we never would have," he said.

"My family still faces a lot of challenges ahead.

"These new challenges will require an equally committed effort as we work to pick up the pieces and rebuild a childhood for my children."
