Renewed push for light rail between Adelaide Airport and city

Powered by

Passengers at Adelaide Airport could soon be travelling to the city on a battery-powered light rail network.

Adelaide Airport is just six kilometres from the city and passengers say a direct rail link would be a welcome addition.

Major construction company, The Downer Group, lodged an unsolicited bid with the Labor government late last year.

And now the Civil Contractors Federation hopes a new Liberal government will reassess the multi-million-dollar proposal.

Adelaide Airport said it would support an affordable light rail service and has accounted for it in its long-term vision.

If it was approved, trams could be operational in as little as two years’ time.

Confirmation will come in the budget.
