New passenger jet set to boost SA tourism and trade

More international visitors could be headed for South Australia, with Singapore Airlines announcing a state-of-the-art aircraft to service Adelaide. 

Adelaide Airport has warmly welcomed the announcement, that'll see the city play host to the airline's launch of its latest aircraft. 

The brand-new Airbus A350-900 will further connect South Australia with the rest of the world.

The airline is tipping it'll increase international passenger numbers by 7 percent. 

"It's just about opening that opportunity for people to come in," Philip Goh, of Singapore Airlines, said. 

"We saw the market growing in both in and out bound."

Airport management says the news is another indication that international interest is continuing to rise. 

"Adelaide has been growing very, very well. In terms of our international services, we are the fastest growing airport in the country," Mark Young of Adelaide Airport says. 

As well as a boost in tourism, more of South Australia's world-renowned produce will be able to be exported.

"The freight component on these new aircrafts is 20 tonne so it means more chance to get our produce back up into Asia, with seafood and some of our perishable products," David Ridgway, State Tourism Minister says. 

The first flight will take off in December, with the service operating once a day.
