An Australian runway model is facing more than two decades behind bars in the US after an outburst on an international flight where she attacked a flight attendant.

Now, for the first time, Adau Mornyang's actions on board the flight can be revealed.

Before her conviction, the 25-year-old South Sudanese-born Australian woman dreamed big and made it.

She was named a Miss World Australia finalist, and became an international runway model.

But on a flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles in January this year, it all unravelled.

Court documents reveal Mornyang was served two glasses of red wine on board, and as the flight attendant handed her the first drink, he noticed an empty wine bottle at her seat.

Nine hours into the journey, passengers started complaining about her behaviour, saying she was talking to herself, screaming and waving her arms around.

An audio recording revealed some of the comments Mornyang made in what was a 20-minute ordeal for other passengers and the crew.

"Don't you ever dare come up to me and tell me, 'oh, you are disturbing everybody else’," she says at one point.

When an attendant asked her to calm down, she accused him of being racist.

"But right now you're calling the cops on me because of s--- I didn't do, because some white-ass b--- complained to you about me!" she said.

Mornyang got out of her seat, stood in the rear galley, and refused to sit back down.

She stumbled backwards towards the cockpit, bumping into passengers and leaning into their faces, yelling expletives as she took off her jacket and shoes.

She took off her socks and hurled them at other passengers.

The attendant pursued her through the plane, which was when Mornyang yelled at him, shook her finger in his face, and slapped the attendant across his cheek.

The crew member then restrained the unruly Australian and put her in an empty seat.

Two federal air marshals then handcuffed Mornyang and moved her to a jump seat.

They allowed her to use the bathroom, where she stayed for 40 minutes and at times dozed off to sleep.

But as the two marshals carried her to the plane's last row, she screamed and tried to escape, and two hours before the plane landed in Los Angeles, other passengers had to be moved so the model wouldn't be able to hit, kick, or scream at anyone.

Now, she could be jailed for up to 21 years.

The court set her bail at US$10,000 ($14,298.10), with permission to travel between California, New York and New Jersey.

Mornyang will be sentenced on July 15, after her lawyers' motion to have her conviction thrown out was dismissed.
