Action against Aussie doctor in IS video
The Australian doctor who featured in an Islamic State propaganda video is being investigated by the Medical Board of Australia.
WA-registered doctor Tareq Badawi Kamleh appears in the IS recruitment video calling on Muslim health professionals in the West to join him in the extremist group's stronghold in Raqqa in Syria.
The Medical Board issued a statement on Friday confirming it will investigate the Adelaide-trained doctor in the first step towards possible deregistration.
The board said it took the decision in the "unusual case" because it wanted to maintain community confidence in the regulations that guide health practitioners.
It did not outline how long the investigation could take.
The matter could be further referred to a tribunal before Kamleh is no longer allowed to practise in Australia, or limits are placed on his registration.
