ACT childcare package safe: police

A suspicious package left outside a Canberra childcare centre did not contain explosive materials, police say.

A police bomb squad investigated the package left outside the YMCA Early Learning Centre in Holder, in Canberra's south.

The centre was evacuated after it was found at the front gate at 7.55am on Thursday.

Road blocks were set up in streets nearby and parents had to collect their children.

Police rendered the package safe by 11am.
