NT opposition: two members, 20 portfolios

Just two Northern Territory shadow ministers will share 20 portfolios after the Country Liberal Party was obliterated in last month's election.

Opposition leader Gary Higgins will look after eight additional areas including treasury, Aboriginal affairs and housing.

His deputy, Lia Finocchiaro, will cover the rest, including the shadow justice portfolio.

It's particularly contentious given the coming royal commission into the abuse of indigenous youths in NT detention

The CLP was left with just two seats when Territorians went to the polls in late August fed up with four years of scandal.

Labor snapped up 18 seats and independents five.

But Mr Higgins on Thursday said he was "excited about the task ahead, and invigorated by the challenge of holding the government to account".

The previous smallest opposition, since the NT became self-governing in 1978, was a four-member CLP after the 2005 election.
