New five-gun limit for ACT firearms owners
The ACT government will introduce new gun control laws this week, limiting the number of firearms that licence holders can own.
The territory government says reforms have been prioritised following the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach that left 15 people dead.
ACT Police Minister Marisa Paterson said residents expected laws that "put community safety first".

"These new laws address identified risks in uncapped firearm ownership, and reclassify firearms to ensure modern, nationally consistent laws," Paterson said.
The draft Firearms (Public Safety) Amendment Bill 2026 would restrict licence holders to a maximum of five guns, with exemptions allowing up to 10 guns for occupational and sporting purposes.
The changes also tighten the types of firearms allowed in the ACT by recategorising several firearm types, including introducing limits on magazine capacity and rapid-fire weapons.
The ACT government says it will tackle the rise of illegal weapons manufactured using 3D printing technology by creating a new offence for possessing a digital blueprint used to produce firearms or firearm parts.
The reforms align with National Cabinet's decision to strengthen firearm laws, and the ACT government says it will aim introduce further changes in the coming months.
In the wake of the Bondi attack, the NSW government introduced gun control reforms restricting licensed holders to four guns.
