Large CSIRO sculpture stolen from Canberra site

Part of a sculpture worth hundreds of thousands of dollars has been stolen from outside a CSIRO building in Canberra.

ACT police are seeking information about a large bronze disk that was removed from the site in Campbell sometime between Thursday at 9pm and 3pm Friday.

"Il grande ascolto" (The Great Listening) was created by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro and has stood outside the CSIRO building since 1970.

Police are looking for one of two bronze disks 80cm in diameter mounted on top of the bronze base of the sculpture that is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A staff member noticed one of the disks missing on Friday.
