Geelong Grammar abuse to be investigated

The child sex abuse royal commission is investigating the sexual abuse of students at Geelong Grammar School.

The royal commission wants anyone abused at Geelong Grammar School or with information about it to come forward as part of its investigation into how institutions including schools responded to allegations of child sexual abuse.

The identity of anyone who provided information would be protected and no public hearing into Geelong Grammar School had been announced at this stage, the commission said on Tuesday.

Principal Stephen Meek says the school has given information to the royal commission relating to conduct by some former staff members dating back to the 1960s, some of which has already been dealt with by the courts.

"The school is appalled at any form of abuse," he said in a letter to the school community a fortnight ago.

"The school deeply regrets the wrongful conduct of some of its former staff."

In 2005, former Geelong Grammar tutor Phillipe Vincent Trutmann, then 44, was sentenced to up to six-and-a-half years jail for sexually assaulting 41 young male boarders as they slept between 1985 and 1995.
