Police have found almost a dozen "dangerous" pipe bombs on the street in the nation's capital, urging residents to be wary of more suspicious devices.

Several reports have been made in the last two days of explosive devices being found in Canberra, according to police.

They have been seen in the vicinity of Lake Ginninderra between Joynton Smith Drive and Ginninderra Drive in Belconnen in the city's north-west.

Detective Inspector Anna Wronski confirmed 11 devices had been found and that they had been found next to footpaths and on nature strips.

"Some have been detonated prior to police locating them, and some had not yet detonated," she said.

She emphasised no injuries or damage to property had been reported as a result of the explosions.

In images released by ACT Policing, the devices are grey and cylindrical, with what appear to be twist tops at either end.

Police say they have not received any information to suggest there are more of these bombs or other similar explosive devices in other locations of the city, but are urging residents to exercise caution.

If such a device is found, members of the public are being told not to touch it and to contact police immediately.
