Accused drink-driver released on bail after crash kills pedestrian in Adelaide

A 23-year-old man who allegedly fatally struck another young man returning from a night out in Adelaide’s southern suburbs has walked from court.

Josh Norman is accused of being behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz sedan when it hit and killed Adam Joseph, 21, about 4am on Saturday.

It’s understood Mr Joseph was walking back home along Black Road with his friends from a local hotel when he was struck.

Mr Norman was charged with aggravated cause death by dangerous driving and drink-driving. He allegedly recorded a blood alcohol level of .191, close to four times the legal limit.

Today the family of the accused sobbed in court as Magistrate Millard read out the home detention bail condition. Mr Norman was unresponsive, staring at the ground as he stood in the dock.

Outside court, the 23-year-old was overcome with emotion, crying as he walked away with his mother.

His supporters remained silent after being asked whether they had anything to say to the deceased’s family.

Mr Norman has been disqualified from driving and will return to court in April.
