Accused child sex offender attempted to 'lure children with lollies'

A man already on bail for child pornography charges will remain behind bars after allegedly conducting surveillance on young girls while living in a house across the road from a Brisbane school.

William Tyrone Kelly was denied bail at Brisbane Magistrates Court today after police raided the home opposite Woodridge North State School following a tip off earlier this week.

Police uncovered three mobile phones, several USB sticks and a laptop allegedly containing explicit images of children, claiming the 32-year-old had a surveillance camera set up to monitor the school from his house and had been taking detailed notices about the movements of female students.

It is also alleged the man had offered children lollies to come to his house, while advertising himself as a babysitter online.

Neighbour Samantha Ryan told 9NEWS her mother’s instinct prompted her to notify the school.

“It lead him to giving me a bag of treats for me to give to my children in a brown paper bag,” she claimed.

“I went home and proceeded to throw them straight in the bin.”

While the man was already on bail for similar offences, it is alleged he had moved to an “unauthorised address” opposite the school, with neighbours claiming he had been staying at the property for almost a year.

He was charged with possessing and making child exploitation material, as well as breaching the bail conditions of his earlier charges and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on November 13.
