He has been remembered as "'PopCultureChris' the funny face of the ABC and Australian pop culture," by friend David Scott, who launched a fundraiser for Mr Chamberlin's funeral.

"He passed away whilst on holidays in India and as his friend, as his #1 fan and someone who will miss him more than words can ever describe, I know there are hundreds, thousands of you out there who want to give back to Chris in anyway they can for the cheer he brought to our lives," Mr Scott wrote.

ABC personalities including 7.30 Report host Leigh Sales and Jeremy Fernandez have also paid tribute to Mr Chamberlin.

ABC staff were informed of Mr Chamberlin's death by director of audiences Leisa Bacon yesterday, Mumbrella reports.

"It is with great sadness that I am writing of the recent passing of Chris Chamberlin, a dear colleague and friend, who died earlier today while on holidays in India," Ms Bacon wrote.

"Chris has been a key part of our ABC family for over four years. He originally started in May 2008… He has spent most of his ABC career as a senior publicist across news and television, and he was a star at his job, as he really loved media.

"Chris has managed campaigns for projects across all TV genres – news, factual, entertainment and children's programs."

The GoFundMe fundraiser has raised more than $8800 of its $10,000 goal.
