He may have lost the top job but Tony Abbott is to receive an award earned during his time in office, supporting the Ukrainian people.
The former prime minister will deliver a speech in Melbourne on Wednesday morning when he receives the inaugural Freedom Award from the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations.
The group says Mr Abbott and his government had supported Ukraine during a time of Russian aggression and the downing of flight MH17.
