Win for NSW pensioners hit with $9000 energy bill

There's been a new development for New South Wales pensioners Vanessa and Laurie Hayes after they spoke out about a $9000 bill they received from Origin Energy.

Origin Energy have responded to A Current Affair following last night's story and the couple has now had a win.

After A Current Affair asked the power company to consider further reducing the couple's bill, it has responded and now credited the couple with more than $8800.

The Hayes, who are both in their 70s, said they received the bill around Christmas in 2016 and they'd had no choice but to pay it off ever since.

"We pay $180. I pay one week out of my pension, he pays the next week out of his pension," Ms Hayes previously told A Current Affair.

So yesterday, the pensioners drove three and a half hours to Channel Nine in Sydney to complain about their power bill that didn't seem to add up.

The Hayes are over the moon after being issued with the credit and said they are thankful for everyone's support.
