Most of us retreat to our homes for peace and quiet. And if you are lucky you have good neighbours.

But in one suburb, the young and elderly are getting caught in the crossfire of violent street brawls.

At the centre of it are two families and a video that can only be described as 12 minutes of utter madness, which has led to epic fallout over who started it.

"It was just absolute sheer hell, like it just looked like something out of a movie," one resident said.

In the confronting vision, fists fly as more than a dozen people including adults and children pile into the brawl, believed to be sparked by kids riding their bikes.

One teenager emerges, armed with a bat, before being dragged to the ground, then beaten senseless.

Kynan had been visiting friends when he got caught up in the mayhem.

"Someone ran up behind me, and then started beating me down [with] the baseball bat into my back and then towards my head," he said.

" .. I was struggling to even move or speak. I got taken to the hospital to get X-rays."

Some residents in the street told A Current Affair they've been living in a constant state of anxiety, locking themselves in their home when tempers flare.

The Department of Housing has evicted one couple and blocked them from accessing state housing for two years, while another household has been allowed to stay but placed on notice.
