A study program in Sydney's west is helping teenage girls from disadvantaged backgrounds start afresh, one squash game at a time.

Mostly made up of refugees from war-torn countries, the girls descend on the courts after school on a Tuesday as part of a special program called Girls Squash Can.

It's designed to help the girls settle into their new lives in Australia.
