The Aussie figure skater who found his Olympic partner on the other side of the world

For Australian ice skaters Hektor Giotopoulos Moore and Anastasia Golubeva, landing themselves at their first-ever Winter Olympics has been far from simple.

Struggling to find a skating partner in Australia, Hektor searched the globe until he found Anastasia in Russia.

When they met, Anastasia didn't know English and Hektor knew no Russian.

Then COVID hit and Hektor stayed in Russia for a year and a half, learning the language, and building a solid partnership with Anastasia.

When the borders reopened, the 15-year-old Anastasia left her life and family behind, moving to Australia to live with Hektor and his family.

Lots of hard work later and the gamble paid off when the duo secured a spot at Milano Cortina 2026.

Anastasia got her citizenship weeks before the Olympic Winter Games.

Now they're preparing to take to the ice, with big hopes of winning Australia's first ever Olympic medal in the sport.
