Australia is in a housing crisis and there is a desperate need for new developments in our cities.

But church parishioners in Sydney's south-west say they've been forced to take a stand against one development following a controversial plan to bulldoze their place of worship to build a 22-storey apartment block.

"I'd say it's absolute desecration. There's no other word for it – unless to say 'unGodly'," Bankstown St Paul's Anglican Church worshipper, 94-year-old Lola, told A Current Affair.
