Six generation circus dynasty Stardust returns to Sydney big top

Australia's largest touring circus is celebrating over 30 years in operation by attempting to leap into the history books.

When Jan West married Lindsay Lennon, it signalled the merging of two circus families dating back to the 19th century.

In 1993 the couple bought Perry Brothers Circus re-branded it Stardust - marking the beginning of one of Australia's biggest big-top circuses in history.

And the show wouldn't go on without the support of family.

Six out of seven of Jan's children, along with 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren are part of the two hour, high energy show.

In 2021, the circus retired its four tigers - the last remaining exotic animals - citing insurance difficulties following the pandemic.

These days, Stardust tours the country, stopping in large cities and regional communities.

We caught up with Jan at Warriewood in Sydney's northern beaches, as seventh generation circus performer Ricky attempted to make somersaulting history.
