Small businesses shunted by major transport project fight the state for scraps

Small retailers who were shunted to the kerb by a major transport project were offered millions in compensation by the state government, only for them to revoke that payout.

For business owners in Sydney's CBD, the Hunter Connection was the perfect location.

It was once one of the city's busiest shortcuts linking Wynyard Station to Pitt Street but foot traffic has collapsed as Sydney Metro works on a new station.

Traders told A Current Affair they were promised millions but were now fighting for scraps.

Sydney Metro said it was very conscious that acquisitions could be a difficult time.

"We make every effort to avoid acquiring privately owned property interests wherever possible," a Sydney Metro spokesperson said.
